PharmFLIX Video Entry
0It has truly been a while since we last updated you with what our chapter has been up to. Fortunately, Marie, Andrew and I (along with several other people) have created a video for the PharmFLIX video contest.
As per http://www.pharmacist.com/AM/Template.cfm?Section=PharmFlix_Video_Contest ,
“BACKGROUND: You are invited to participate in APhA-ASP’s PharmFlix Video Contest! This year’s theme is a Public Service Announcement (PSA) focused on the American Pharmacists Month (APhM) slogan “Know Your MEDICINE, Know Your PHARMACIST”. As APhA-ASP members, we have a multitude of opportunities to get involved in our communities and let our patients know what valuable service pharmacists provide. From patient care projects to grassroots advocacy to professional development, there is a niche for you to let patients know what we can do for them. By creating a short PSA, you have the opportunity to advocate for the profession and APhM. These PSA’s will allow you to creatively illustrate why it is important to “Know Your MEDICINE, Know Your PHARMACIST!”
DESCRIPTION: These short PSA films can be of various genres including, but not limited to, documentaries, and parodies of pop-culture, commercials, music videos, and movie trailers. You are encouraged to work with your chapter members; there is no limit to the number of videos you can submit for each chapter. The short film must include the phrase “Know Your MEDICINE, Know Your PHARMACIST”. The placement of this phrase is entirely up to you. You do not receive additional points for including it multiple times. The winning video will be showcased during the 2011 APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Seattle, Washington! So, get creative and work together! Let’s celebrate our profession and American Pharmacists Month!”
So, this is our submission:
Of course, if you like it, please share it with others!
Many thanks to those who aided in its creation.

Hey guys!!
WELCOME TO THE APHA-ASP ST. JOHN’S PHARMACY BLOG!
If you’ve just found yourself stumbling upon St. John’s APhA-ASP website for the first time, I warmly welcome you. Also, if you like to occasionally check up on the APhA-ASP website, I congratulate you! This will be an excellent way to keep up with the events we’ve hosted throughout the semester, as well as find recaps to events you may have unfortunately missed out on. On our end, it also opens another avenue for us to reach out to YOU!
A little bit about me– My name is Carina Fung and I’m a 4th year pharmacy student, as well as APhA-ASP’s 2010 Student Liason who personally loves to blog and write during my free time. So, I figured
, why not blog for the entire student body to keep everyone informed and on the same APhA-ASP page! Mohammad has been doing a lot of the technological aspects of it, and here I am enjoying the fruits of his labor (and obviously having a lot of fun playing with emoticons…

)
Last Thursday, ALL FIVE
pharmacy organizations collaborated together at the CVS Lounge during Common Hour to throw EVERYONE a Spring back-to-school social! And yes, there are a total of five pharmacy organizations on campus:
1. APhA-ASP = US! (learn more about us by clicking around our website!)
2. PLS = Pharmacy Leadership Society
3. Rho Chi = Pharmacy Honor Society
4. LKS = Pharmacy Sorority
5. PDC = Pharmacy Fraternity
Don’t worry if you are unaware of all these organizations as of now, because you will see a lot of collaboration throughout the semester. We kicked off the 2010 year with a Social, serving pizza and drinks and found ourselves absolutely floored by the turnout!
The CVS Lounge was bustling, the energy in the air was just overwhelming and empowering for many organizations who are now further excited and inspired by you to make our future events just as amazing, if not better! It was also a very nice moment of old friends reunited after the long holidays as well as an opportunity to network and form new friendships that we hope will further facilitate an important concept of pharmacy unity.
Here is a link to pictures from the Back to School Social, courtesy of our very own historian, Mohammad Rattu.
And pictures from the Pre-Professional Back to School Social.
Can you find yourself?! And if you missed the event, look at how much fun everyone’s having!
UPCOMING EVENTS:
On Tuesday, we will be present at the Activities Fair from 10AM-2PM in Taffner Field House. Stop by and say hi! We love meeting new people, and no, we don’t bite
On Thursday, we will be hosting a “Heart to Heart” session to jumpstart our series of events for February, which is “American Heart Month” during Common Hour.
Keep an eye out for our flyers posted along the walls of St. Al’s!
I hope to see all your lovely faces at future events! Have a Happy Monday!
Milk and Cookies Social
0January 26, 2010 @ the CVS Lounge.
Students enjoyed themselves to cookies and milk, while Jena, Geena, and a few other executive board members (along with student liaisons) spoke with attendees about APhA and pharmacy. Jena announced important information regarding theAnnual meeting in Washington, DC, as well as the third general body meeting and general things about getting involved with the organization.
Sharon, a 3rd-year Peer Mentoring student liaison made announcements about the mentoring program. Towards the end of the event, a mentee signed up.
Overall, the event was a great way for potential members to learn more about APhA through the various activities that it provides for pharmacy students. The Peer Mentoring program is just one of the great ways for mentors and mentees to spend time together, discuss school occurrences, and arrange for fellow students to sit in their mentors’ classes.
Welcome to APhAStJohns.ORG!
0As of January 18, 2010, the executive board has decided to initiate a blog on the main website.
The purpose of this is to provide quick news updates, in addition to services such as Twitter, Facebook, OrgSync, and E-mails from the Google Group.
If you would like to participate in publication of news and updates on our chapter website, click on the Comments link below to express your interest. Of course, if you would like to directly contact me, just click on my name in this post.
I hope everyone enjoys this new functionality!
