Erica’s Story

My first year at St. John’s University has already given me a good indication of what my future here holds. Socially, I’ve found that the pharmacy major is such a close-knit community that by the end of the six-year journey, you will undoubtedly have made plenty of lifelong friends and unforgettable memories. Academically, I’ve encountered devoted professors who are genuinely compassionate and exceedingly-helpful towards their students. Since the work load essentially becomes increasingly demanding, the first year is not too laborious. This provides the perfect opportunity to become involved on campus from the start; there are myriad organizations that all have innumerable benefits. In my first semester, I joined APhA-ASP, which taught me more things about the profession of pharmacy than I could ever learn from a class alone. During my second semester, I became a sister of Lambda Kappa Sigma, and I encourage all ladies (or Phi Delta Chi for the gentlemen) to do the same! In a pharmacy fraternity you surround yourself with people who know exactly what you are going through and can guide you every step of the way. I’m certain that had I not joined these organizations, my first year would not have been as good as it was.

My advice to you is… These years are what you make of them, so don’t just do what it takes to get by! Keep your grades up, get involved from the start, and seize all opportunities that you come across.
